The Deal
In short, CultureFix is a blog about ART, DESIGN, TRAVEL and FOOD — the best things in life. Non?
The over-a-glass-of-wine version goes something like this: It’s about little-known artists, famous works, design’s history and future, great buildings, experiences and food. It strives to connect the dots and explain why artists and designers are driven to make their art. How they do it and what they do. I like to look closely, linger longer and help myself to seconds. I’m not afraid to ask. And most of all, I love to convince. So come on, stay awhile, let me refill your glass. Maybe I can get you hooked.

CultureFix is written by Carrie Nieman Culpepper, an award-winning writer and editor with more than 10 years of experience working for regional and national publications. I’m a native New Yorker who’s recently back from an extended stay in the gracious south. I will miss the ham biscuits.
I first put my journalism degree to work as Arts & Culture editor at Richmond, Va. alt-weekly newspaper Style Weekly. More recently I spent my days scouting, styling and writing about home decor and architecture as Managing Editor of R•Home. Along the way I’ve been a music critic for The Washington Post, a content producer for Citysearch.com and a freelance writer for publications like New York, Outside and Southern Accents. I’ve been interviewed on the radio, appeared regularly on TV and emceed special events. In the Spring, I was asked to sit on a Design Blog Panel during SCAD Style festival at the Savannah College of Art & Design. Now in Brooklyn, I’m rediscovering New York and editing a new AOL design blog called RentedSpaces.

My portrait was painted at Richmond’s First Fridays Artwalk by Raven and illustrator and Virginia Commonwealth University art student. Note: Carrie is not exactly this sinister.
